31st December Juv. Stonechat at Axle Lane. On the wall near South Anston (MC).

27th December Four gathered for the annual post Christmas walk. This year, to and from Leger Lakes via Roche Abbey was a gloomy, but dry, chilly day as the group set off. First bird of the day was Heron, taking off from the fishing ponds. Was generally quiet along Slade Hills, save for a Kestrel, a good passage of larger gulls, most notably c50 Herring Gull, plus c250 Chaffinch, in and out of the game cover, with just a single Brambling located by Kings Wood. Although 2 Marsh Tit were calling from Kings Wood, with 2 more Marsh Tit from the path to Roche Abbey. Along to Roche Abbey and 2 Buzzard counted, 2 Teal, 2 Mallard and a Sparrowhawk over. The short walk to Stone produced a flock of c70 Siskin and a couple of Lesser Redpoll. Walking around Stubbing Wood yielded 3 Peregrine, 2m & a f. Back towards Lingodell and the game cover there produced another large large flock of c200 finches, c150 Chaffinch and c50 Greenfinch. The rain began to fall as we were in sight of Leger Lakes, our vehicles, but not until most enjoyed an all-day breakfast and hot tea, which was most welcome (ADH).c80 Pink-footed Goose >W over Carlton in Lindrick (MSc).

21st December A Red Kite over Axle Lane, from observers lounge! (MC). A further Red Kite >W over Costhorpe at 0840 (MSc).

20th December At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 38 Wigeon, 14 Mallard, 13 Teal, Heron, 20 Fieldfare and 8 Redwing. At Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland), a Water Rail calling S of fishing ponds. 142 Fieldfare >S, 3 Mute Swan >E, 5 Cormorant >S and 16 Lapwing feeding in field S of pit top (MC). M Blackcap in a Woodsetts garden, feeding on apple slices (GP).

18th December A day in SK58 produced the following; at Dinnington Marsh were 6 Black-headed Gull, 4 Mallard, 7 Blackbird, 800+ Corvid, 17 Stock Dove, 4 Herring Gull >E, 35 Redwing, 2 Buzzard, imm. Sparrowhawk and 2 Jay. At Harry Croft's Quarry were 27 Redwing, pair of Kestrel, Green Woodpecker, Buzzard, 9 Snipe, 3 Skylark >S and Lapwing 5>W & 8>NE. Around Roche Abbey were Jay, 2 Buzzard, Moorhen, 25 Teal, 20 Mallard and a Marsh Tit. At a 99% frozen Langold Lake on an open patch of water were Jay, 177 Black-headed Gull, 7 Mute Swan, 46 Mallard, 3 Moorhen, 3 Common Gull, 11 Herring Gull, just 2 Greylag Goose, 22 Coot, 6 Tufted Duck, Great Crested Grebe, 40+ Chaffinch in the Woodlark field, plus Green Woodpecker. Final stop was Carlton Lake with just the top area ice free, concentrating many birds; 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 20 Herring Gull, 1500 Black-headed Gull, Little Egret, Woodcock, 3m & 1f Gadwall, 3m & 4f Shoveler, 6 Moorhen, 2 Cormorant, 3 Teal, 6 Common Gull, 8 Mallard and 2 Mute Swan (ADH).

17th December A juv. Stonechat on the wall at Axle Lane (MC). 400+ Linnet by Dewidales Wood (BCa). 8 Jay in Anston Stones Wood (PT). c60 Fieldfare around Woodsetts school (BCa).

15th December A Little Egret at Langold Lake again today, plus 50/60 Lapwing >W (MSc).

14th December A Little Egret on the canal feeder just E of Turnerwood (NB), plus 2 more Little Egret at Langold Lake (MSc).

13th December A Little Egret at Langold Lake today (MSc). Tommy Flockton’s Marsh was mostly iced over but birds present included 33 Wigeon, 17 Mallard, c35 Redwing, 10 Fieldfare and a Sparrowhawk (BC).

12th December A skein of Pink-footed Goose heard circling over Axle Lane in dense fog at 0240, before heading off >W (MC). Five SK58 Birders took part in the December visit to Langold Lake in freezing fog.
After a slow start, things improved with a flock of 50+ Lesser Redpoll feeding in Alders by the bowling green. The main lake had a small area of open water and waterfowl counted were 3 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Mute Swan, 5 Canada Goose, a pair of Gadwall, 40+ Mallard and a m Tufted Duck. A single Common Gull was among c85 Black-headed Gull. A small area of open water at the far end of the top lake produced Water Rail. Along the N shore of the lake a m Siskin was found in a flock of c15 Goldfinch. Returning to the cafe car park a Little Egret was found in the woodland (GF & LF).

9th December 2 Little Egret at Langold Lake today (MSc). 65 Pink-footed Goose >W over Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) at 1430 (WB).

8th December Little Egret in trees on the large island at Langold Lake today (MSc). At Axle Lane a m and 2 juv. Stonechat, 28 Cormorant and 37 Golden Plover (MC).

7th December A m Stonechat on the wall at Axle Lane (MC).

5th December Along First Lane were single Raven, m Kestrel, f Sparrowhawk, 12 Stock Dove, 24 Redwing >N, 60 Lesser Redpoll in a hedgerow and a m Green Woodpecker calling from Smarson Hills Wood (MC).

4th December 2 Little Egret in trees by Woodsetts Sewage Works (GP).

3rd December 44 Pink-footed Goose >E over Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland (ABa).

1st December 400 strong finch flock, with at least 15 Brambling in fields by Stubbing Wood (JG).

27th November 2 Green Sandpiper, a Little Egret and Chiffchaff at Hodsock today (JG).

25th November A m & juv. Stonechat still present on the the wall at Axle Lane (MC).

23rd November A Little Egret >S along Lockwood Avenue, South Anston (MC).

20th November The groups wildfowl count produced the following: At Roche Abbey were 2 Teal and 2 Moorhen. Langold Lake revealed 16 Moorhen, calling Water Rail, 14 Coot, 15 Tufted Duck, 26 Mallard, 20 Canada Goose, 3 Great Crested Grebe and 4 Mute Swan plus a dead Mute Swan at the top pond. At Carlton Lake were 5 Gadwall, a Coot and a Heron. Tommy Flockton's Marsh produced 2 Egyptian Goose, 14 Greylag Goose, 14 Mallard, 5 Teal, 44 Wigeon, 2 Little Egret and 2 Heron (MC). 2 Egyptian Goose at Tommy Flockton's Marsh again today (JG).

19th November At Hodsock today were 2ad and 3juv. Whooper Swan, Little Egret, 4 Heron, 800 Starling, 3 Snipe, 3 Song Thrush, 2 Mistle Thrush, 180 Black-headed Gull and 45 Lesser Black-backed Gull (JG).

18th November 72 Pink-footed Goose >E over First Lane and a juv. Stonechat still on the Axle Lane wall (MC).

16th November m Goldeneye Langold Lake today & c100 Pink-footed Goose >N (MSc). At Harry Croft's Quarry today were Green Woodpecker, 2 Kestrel, 25 Fieldfare, 30 Meadow Pipit, 5 Yellowhammer, Jay and 8 Song Thrush (JG). 500 Fieldfare >S over Axle Lane, also 2juv. Stonechat and 29 Golden Plover (MC).

14th November Calling Pink-footed Goose skein >W over Axle Lane in dense fog (MC).

12th November At Roche Abbey today were 8 Teal, a Gadwall and a Little Grebe. Langold Lake held 46 Mallard, 15 Tufted Duck, 11 Moorhen, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Mute Swan and a Kingfisher. At Carlton Lake were 2 Cormorant, 10 Gadwall, 3 Shoveler and 8 Greylag Goose. Brown Bailey's produced 13 Tufted Duck. Hewett Arms revealed 24 Mallard, 4 Moorhen, Kestrel and a f Sparrowhawk (BC). At Axle Lane, on the wall, were 2juv, and a m Stonechat (MC).

11th November c200 Pink-footed Goose >E over Dinnington (JG).

8th November A f Merlin hunting Skylark on First Lane (MC).

7th November At Axle Lane today were m and 2 juv. Stonechat. Over First Lane were 50 Pink-footed Goose >S (MC).

5th November c400 Pink-footed Goose >W over Dinnington (JG). 60 Pink-footed Goose >W over Axle Lane, plus single m & juv. Stonechat still (MC).

4th November At Carlton Lake today were 14 Gadwall, Kingfisher, 3 Mallard, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 180 Black-headed Gull, 2 Coot, 14 Moorhen and a Water Rail. At Langold Lake were a Kingfisher and a Brambling. Hodsock revealed 3 Stonechat, 3 Brambling, a pair of Sparrowhawk, Little Egret, 12 Grey Partridge, 600 Starling, 2 Siskin and 14 Fieldfare (JG). 200 Pink-footed Goose >W over First lane (MC). c100 Linnet in fields next to Dewidales Wood, plus Red Kite over Woodsetts (BCa).

3rd November c500-550 Pink-footed Goose tracked >W over Throapham, Dinnington & Anston (ADH, JG & MC), with an estimated (same birds?) 1000 >NW (BC). 53 Pink-footed Goose >S over First Lane & m Peregrine hunting (MC).

2nd November At Axle Lane were 70 Pink-footed Goose >W and 30 Pink-footed Goose >E, plus 2m and 2 juv. Stonechat (MC). At Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) today were 8 Redwing, Little Egret & Snipe over (WB).

1st November 15 Grey Partridge in a Limelands estate, Dinnington garden (JG).

31st October At Axle Lane today were 2m and single juv. Stonechat, Yellow-legged Gull and 72 Golden Plover plus 250 Pink-footed Goose >S over First Lane, in skeins of 120, 60 & 70 (MC).

30th October By the old airfield at Firbeck (Stubbings Wood), were 200 Starling, Raven >W and 2- 3 Brambling with 200 Greenfinch (JG). 4m single juv. Stonechat at Axle Lane (MC).

29th October 200 Pink-footed Goose over Woodsetts (AM).

28th October At Harry Croft's Quarry this afternoon were Grey Wagtail, 2 Kestrel, 5 Lesser Redpoll, 3 Siskin >S, 45 Goldfinch, 33 Meadow Pipit, 2 Jay, 7 Blackbird, 3 Buzzard, 6 Yellowhammer, 7 Grey Partridge and a Snipe. At Hewett Arms Pond were 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Cormorant, 4 Little Egret, Grey Wagtail, 26 Mallard, 2 Jay, 2 Kestrel, 2 Kingfisher, 2 Siskin >S and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. At New Road in Dinnington, a Grey Wagtail and Tawny Owl, seen and heard regularly (JG). At Axle Lane were 2m and single Juv. Stonechat (MC).

26th October A m Stonechat still at Axle Lane (from observers bedroom window!) (MC). Circa 200 Lesser Black-backed Gull at Dewidales (BCa).

25th October 2m Stonechat still at Axle Lane (MC) and 9 Grey Partridge by First Lane (PT).

24th October A Red Kite >S over Kiveton at 1600 (DN). At least 5-6 Grey Partridge on the house/ garage roof and in the garden of a house at Throapham at 0700. Lost in the fog (ADH). At Axle Lane were 171 Golden Plover and 2 m Stonechat (MC).

23rd October 3m Stonechat at Axle Lane this afternoon (MC).

22nd October A Yellow-legged Gull and m Stonechat at Axle Lane (MC).

20th October At Carlton Lake today were 26 Black-headed Gull, 22 Lesser Black-backed Gull, Heron, Little Egret, 2 Redwing, 3 Fieldfare, 2 Chiffchaff, 10 Greylag Goose, 21 Mallard, 7 Teal , 4 Wigeon, 5 Shoveler, 24 Gadwall, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Kingfisher and a Kestrel. At Langold Lake were Kingfisher and further m Shoveler (JG).

19th October A Kingfisher and 3 Buzzard at Langold Lake this morning (MSc). 130 Fieldfare >S over First Lane (MC). At Tommy Flockton’s Marsh were 2 Snipe, Little Egret and 35 Fieldfare over (WB).

18th October Early morning at Carlton Lake produced 23 Gadwall, 4 Shoveler, 5 Teal, 4 Wigeon, 11 Mallard, Little Grebe, 2 Kingfisher, Heron, Kestrel, Water Rail, 3 Chiffchaff, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker and 2 Cormorant. At Hodsock were Raven, 2 Jay, 2 Sparrowhawk and 3 Stonechat. At Lingodell a Leucistic Buzzard (JG). At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were Little Egret, Coot and 2 Snipe (ABa). A Willow Tit in gardens backing onto Butchers Orchard (AM). A Red Kite over Peaks Hill Plantation (MS). A m & juv. Stonechat at Axle Lane this afternoon (MC).

15th October 73 Golden Plover at Axle Lane (MC).

14th October At Letwell were Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel, Mistle Thrush, 45 Chaffinch, 25 Linnet, Grey Wagtail , 6 Grey Partridge, Chiffchaff, 30 Pied Wagtail, 25 Lapwing, Stonechat and 90 Pink-footed Goose >E (JG). 3 Raven over First Lane (MC). 50+ Lesser Black-backed Gull and 7 Great Black-backed Gull near Dewidales Wood, Woodsetts (BCa).

13th October At Thurcroft Pit Top today were 3 Jay, 2 Raven, 2 Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, 40 Goldfinch, 25 Linnet, 2 Yellowhammer, Grey Wagtail and 7 Buzzard. At Lingodell, a LeucisticBuzzard (JG). At Langold Lake today were 85 Mallard, 11 Moorhen, m Pochard, Kingfisher and 167 Canada Goose. Carlton Lake held a m & 3f Shoveler, Heron and 11 Moorhen. At Hewett Arms Pond were 4 Little Egret and 28 Mallard (BC). At Axle Lane were Yellow-legged Gull with 450 Black-headed Gull and 250 Lesser Black-backed Gull (MC).

12th October At Tommy Flockton's Marsh today were Snipe, Little Egret, 5 Redwing, 11 Teal, 14 Mallard and 100 Pink-footed Goose >E (JG).

6th October At Harry Croft's Quarry, a Raven, 4 Buzzard, 5 Chiffchaff, Snipe, 2 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk 2 Jay, 15 Yellowhammer, 55 Goldfinch, 7 Grey Partridge, Grey Wagtail, 2 Green Woodpecker, 4 House Martin >S , Siskin >S and constant movement >S of Skylark (JG).

4th October At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were Heron, 4 Little Egret, Green Woodpecker, Buzzard, Peregrine, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, 4 Snipe, 14 Teal and 19 Mallard. At Dinnington Marsh were 3 House Martin (JG).

3rd October A different m Stonechat at Axle Lane this morning (MC).

2nd October 4 hours at Hodsock produced a Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, 3 Jay, 2 Raven, 20 House Martin, f Blackcap, Grey Wagtail, 2 Heron, 50 Goldfinch, 60 Meadow Pipit, 6 Chiffchaff, 11 Buzzard, 2 Mistle Thrush and 6 Grey Partridge (JG). 400 Pink-footed Goose >E over Dinnington (JG). Over Axle Lane this morning were skeins of 38, 117, 165 and 86 Pink-footed Goose all >E, plus m Stonechat on the wall (MC).

29th September A Raven over the Mineral Line at Dinnington Marsh (WB).

28th September 40 Pink-footed Goose >E over S. Anston (MC).

27th September A Little Egret in the trees on the main island at Langold Lake (MSc).

26th September At Tommy Flockton’s Marsh today were 9 Grey Partridge, 2 Egyptian Goose & 7 Teal (WB).

25th September 400 Pink-footed Goose in 3 skeins in 25 mins over Woodsetts (GP).

24th September Redwing over Woodsetts garden. Also 380 Pink-footed Goose >SE, in 3 skeins in 2 hours (GP).

22nd September Tree Pipit >S over First Lane (MC).

21st September Raven over Brancliffe Grange (BCa).

20th September 120 Pink-footed Goose over Axle Lane this morning (WB).

19th September A Red Kite >SW over Rotherham Baulk, Langold (MSc). 2 skeins of Pink-footed Goose over S.Anston totalling 90 birds (MC).

17th September 2 Egyptian Goose, early morning at Tommy Flockton’s Marsh (WB). 41 Pink-footed Goose >E over Axle Lane this morning with a similar number over Dinnington (MC).

16th September At Hodsock, 44 Pink-footed Goose >E and Little Egret >N. Juv. Stonechat at Axle Lane on the wall by the hole (MC).

15th September c150-200 Greylag Goose at Langold Lake, arrived overnight (MSc). 31 Pink-footed Goose >E over Dinnington (JG). 100 Pink-footed Goose >E over S. Anston @ 1054, with a further 43 Pink-footed Goose >E over S. Anston @ 1147 (MC).

14th September Along First Lane were 2 imm. and an ad. Buzzard, calling plus juv. Marsh Harrier >W. >E over Dinnington were 100 Pink-footed Goose (MC). A Kingfisher along the Chesterfield Canal (WB).

13th September 2 Wheatear at Axle Lane, plus m Stonechat, 24 Meadow Pipit, 30 Skylark >S and 3 Golden Plover (MC). A Hobby hunting House Martin over Throapham this morning (ADH). 11 Buzzard high over South Anston, before drifting off >E (MC). A Spotted Flycatcher between Long Thwaite Wood and Thwaite House Farm (JW).

11th September A Wheatear by the wall at Axle Lane plus a large movement of Skylark (MC).

10th September From Thornbury Hill a Honey Buzzard (presumably>S) (JOM). At Kings Wood corner a Hobby, Tree Pipit >S and a Red Kite (MC).

9th September At Hodsock this afternoon were 2 Green Sandpiper, Little Egret, 17 Teal and 100+ Black-headed Gull (BC).

8th September At Axle Lane today were 3 Wheatear and 12 Golden Plover (MC).

7th September At least 7 Wheatear at Axle Lane this morning, plus single Whinchat, single Golden Plover and Buzzard (MC, JHe).

6th September At Hodsock this evening were 4 Green Sandpiper (3 dropped in), 12 Teal, 50+ Lesser Black-backed Gull >W, 2 Whinchat still, total of c50 Swallow through in small parties >S, 2 Buzzard, 6 Stock Dove, Little Egret, 3 Mallard and 3 Snipe dropped in to roost (ADH). At Axle Lane were Axle Lane 6 Wheatear, 5 Golden Plover and 4 Buzzard (MC).

5th September At Hodsock today were 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Whinchat, Sedge Warbler and a Hobby (MC).

3rd September 2 Whinchat at at Axle Lane, plus 2 Wheatear, 5 Golden Plover and 53 House Sparrow (MC & JW).

31st August At Harry Croft's Quarry today were 7 Chiffchaff, 2 Whitethroat, single Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Tree Sparrow, 4 Bullfinch, 9 Long-tailed Tit, 12 Stock Dove, 3 juv. Kestrel, 2 Buzzard, m Green Woodpecker, single Yellow Wagtail, 36 House Martin, 16 Swallow and Green Sandpiper >S plus Curlew, first landing in field to N before >N when disturbed by tractor (MC).

29th August Goshawk >E over South Anston (MC).

28th August Single Golden Plover at Axle Lane (MC).

27th August 2 Raven over Woodsetts (BCa).

26th August At Hodsock today were 3 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 5 Lapwing, 3 Snipe, 3 Buzzard and a Yellow Wagtail (MC). Nearby, 3 Buzzard over Wallingwells, mobbing a Red Kite (MS).

25th August Red Kite >S over Axle Lane (MC).

24th August First Wheatear of the autumn at Axle Lane this afternoon, also Peregrine and Golden Plover (MC).Also a Little Owl on the roof a house at Throapham (ADH).

23rd August 2 Common Sandpiper at Hodsock with a Red Kite over Langold (MC).

22nd August At Hodsock today were 2 Green Sandpiper, 5 Lapwing, 2 Yellow Wagtail and 2 Buzzard (MC).

18th August A Barn Owl over Styrup Road, Oldcotes (MSc).

17th August 3 Green Sandpiper at Hodsock, plus 6 Lapwing (ADH).

15th August At Hodsock early evening were 7 Lesser Black-backed Gull >S, 18 Pied Wagtail, 17 Lapwing, 3 Black-headed Gull, c100 Starling, ad. Heron, 2 Herring Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, 4 Stock Dove, 2 Buzzard, 2 Red Kite and a Green Sandpiper (ADH).

14th August 2 Kingfisher in Lindrick Dale and another Kingfisher on the Chesterfield Canal near Old Spring Wood (FK).

9th August At Axle Lane this morning next to hole in wall, a Yellow Wagtail + at least 3 juvs . Also at Harry Croft's Quarry, a Little Owl & Green Woodpecker (WB).

6th August At Tommy Flockton's Marsh today were 10 Mallard, 4 Lapwing, 3 Moorhen, Heron, Snipe and 6 Black-headed Gull (BC).

5th August 2 Red Kite and a Green Sandpiper at Hodsock (MC).

3rd August At Hodsock this evening were 7 Buzzard, a family party of 2ad. & 7juv. Grey Partridge, 22 Swallow >S, Little Egret, 38 Linnet, single Lapwing, m Kestrel, single Green Sandpiper, 28 Lesser Black-backed Gull mostly >S and 2 Raven (ADH). 2 Kingfisher again along the brook through Anston Stones Wood (AM).

2nd August At Hodsock this morning were 4 Green Sandpiper, Snipe. 2 Common Tern and 3 Buzzard (MC).

30th July At Hodsock this morning were 6 juv. and 2ad. Black-headed Gull, 2 Lapwing on the scrape plus 66 Lapwing >E, Yellow Wagtail, Common Gull >W, 28 Lesser Black-backed Gull >E, 4 Buzzard, 6 Mallard, 3 Stock Dove, 2 Teal, c50 Rook and a m Kestrel (ADH).

29th July 400 Swift over South Anston, harried by a Hobby (MC).

27th July At Hodsock today were 2 Green Sandpiper and 9 Lapwing (MC).

25th July A Spotted Flycatcher this morning in the big hedge at Rackford Road field /Anston Stones Wood (IKM).

24th July Hodsock now has a good amount of water in it, but the vegetation restricts the view. You do need a scope. At the moment; single Green Sandpiper and Yellow Wagtail plus a Red Kite over Langold (MC).

4th June Along the Mineral Line (Dinnington Marsh) by Common Farm, a family party of Willow Tit with at least 4 birds, 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 2 Willow Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroat and 8 Lapwing with one on a nest. At NAPT were 3 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat , 2 Reed Warbler and 2 Sedge Warbler (MC). A pair of Yellow Wagtail at Hodsock Sewage Works (JCe).

3rd June At Harry Croft's Quarry were 2 Barn Owl hunting, 2 very dark Little Owl on the quarry face and 58 Stock Dove feeding in adjacent field (MC). In Dinnington, a Whitethroat in scrub off Barleycroft Lane and a Lesser Whitethroat at Dinnington Pit Top (JG).

2nd June a Quail reported at Roxholme, Carlton in Lindrick (per BirdGuides). A Grasshopper Warbler reeling at Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland), where steep path turns N (BC).

Langold Lake revealed 4 Mute Swan, 18 Mallard, plus 3 duckling, 31ad Greylag Goose, plus 19 juv's, 11 Coot, 2ad Great Crested Grebe with 2 juv's, 6 Tufted Duck, Common Tern, 5 Moorhen and a Buzzard (ADH).

28th May Along Kirk Croft Road were Yellow Wagtail and Lesser Whitethroat. Around Roche Abbey this morning were 8 Wren, 4 Buzzard, 4 Blackcap, 8 Blackbird, 2 Spotted Flycatcher plus a nest, a pair of Grey Wagtail, 3 Nuthatch, Kingfisher, 7 Mallard, 2 pairs of Gadwall, 2 Coot, Heron and a m Teal. From Kings Wood Corner were 14 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Red Kite & 27 Lapwing >W. At Carlton Lake were 2 Little Egret, 3 Mallard, 5m 2f Gadwall, 2 Mute Swan, single Tufted Duck and a single m Teal. Nearby Hodsock produced c100 Linnet, 2 Black-headed Gull and a Herring Gull >S. 16th January On the SK58 Hodsock walk were 14 Golden Plover >N, 14 Greylag Goose >W, 4 Buzzard, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 24 Pied Wagtail and a Grey Wagtail, 250 Linnet, 3 Bullfinch, 300 Starling and in a mixed flock; 30 + Brambling, 15 Tree Sparrow, 100 Chaffinch, 20 Reed Bunting, 18 Yellowhammer and 3 Siskin (MC). 2 Barn Owl at Thurcroft Pit Top (CT).

11th January Early evening at Thurcroft Pit Top produced 3 Barn Owl, 4 Kestrel, 2 Buzzard, Woodcock and 21 Redwing (WB, BC & MC). A Little Egret at Woodsetts Sewage Treatment Works today (GP). At least 3 Water Rail at Langold Lake today (ABo).

10th January Early morning along First Lane produced a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and a Green Woodpecker calling from Smarson Hills Wood. Also Buzzard and Raven (MC). At NAPT were 5 Snipe, 2 Jack Snipe, Woodcock, Green Woodpecker and Grey Wagtail. At Thurcroft Pit Top were 5 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, 2 Woodcock, 124 Pink-footed Geese >W, 200 Herring Gull and a m Stonechat (BC & MC). At Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) were 12 Siskin, 2 Bullfinch, 6 Chaffinch, 2 Mistle Thrush, 20 Fieldfare, 9 Redwing and a Little Egret (WB).

6th January At Langold Lake today were 2m & 1f Pochard (MSc). Also recorded here were 3m Pochard, 2m & 2f Goosander, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 9 Mute Swan, 2 Common Gull and 6 Tufted Duck. At Hodsock were 15 Fieldfare, 4 Brambling, c60 Linnet, c15 Chaffinch and 65 Starling (BC). At Roche Abbey were Grey Wagtail, 8 Teal, 10 Mallard, c50 Siskin, Marsh Tit, Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and 2 Red Kite (JG).

4th January At Axle Lane today were 32 Golden Plover and 120 Fieldfare (WB). 2 Skeins of Pink-footed Goose, totalling 200 birds over South Anston at 0800 (AM). 2 Tawny Owl along Woodsetts Road, N. Anston this morning (GG). A dead Barn Owl, the victim of a probable car strike, along the A57 by Lindrick Dale (per MC).

2nd January An Egyptian Goose at Tommy Flockton's Marsh today. The first in SK58 for 17 years (BC).

1st January At NAPT this morning were 8 Magpie, 12 Robin, 9 Blackbird, Cormorant >S, 23 Linnet, 11 Herring Gull >S, 5 Great Black-backed Gull >S, 4 Reed Bunting, 41 Black-headed Gull, 3 Stock Dove, 14 Meadow Pipit, 8 Snipe, Woodcock, Jack Snipe, Sparrowhawk, Brambling over, Buzzard, 78 Pink-footed Goose >NW, 2 pairs of Bullfinch, 4 Greenfinch and Nuthatch. At Langold Lake were 14 Coot, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Mute Swan, 11 Tufted Duck, Common Gull, 125 Black-headed Gull, 8 Moorhen, 14 Mallard, 12 Goldfinch, Jay, 2 Water Rail and a Buzzard. Carlton Lake was rather quiet but revealed 2 Mute Swan, 85 Pink-footed Goose >SE, 2 Kestrel, 2 Coot, Moorhen, 3 Mallard and a Great Black-backed Gull >S. At Loscar were 86 Rook, 2 Cormorant >S, 28 Herring Gull, 56 Black-headed Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 28 Starling, Buzzard and a Yellowhammer. At Thurcroft Marsh were Buzzard, 3 Stock Dove, 4 Redwing, 37 Fieldfare and a Green Woodpecker (ADH). Back at Langold Lake, 2 Kingfisher & a Heron at Langold Lake (MSc). A skein of Pink-footed Goose in the dark this morning (AM).

30th December At Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) this morning were 5 Reed Bunting, 3 Bullfinch, f Kestrel, 3 Redwing, 17 Fieldfare, Greenfinch, 7 Lesser Redpoll, Siskin, 2 Coal Tit, 20 Long-tailed Tit, Song Thrush & Brambling. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh and Chesterfield Canal were 7 Teal, 24 Wigeon, 15 Mallard, 2 Little Egret, 2 Pied Wagtail, Grey Heron, 2 Greenfinch, Bullfinch, 3 Goldcrest, 7 Long-tailed Tit & Marsh Tit (JW).

27th December 7 Goosander on Langold Lake today (HC).

26th December At Axle Lane today were 260 Golden Plover, 12 Lapwing and 10 Cormorant on the pond (WB).

22nd December Axle Lane produced 2 Buzzard, 27 Herring Gull and 400 Black-headed Gull (MC).

21st December 120 Pink-footed Goose >W over Dinnington. At Hodsock, a pair of Goosander >W, Red Kite, skeins of Pink-footed Goose- 85 >E, 30 >E and 150 >NE (=265). Grazing Black-beaded Gull taken by a Buzzard (JG). At Langold Lake 6 Great Crested Grebe, 6m Pochard, 2 Gadwall, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk, m Green Woodpecker, 239 Pink-footed Goose >N and 2 distant Great White Egret >W. >N over Dinnington were 300 Pink-footed Goose and at dusk over South Anston were 250 Pink-footed Goose >S (MC).

20th December 75 Pink-footed Goose >W over Dinnington at 0930. At Thurcroft Pit Top were 12 Grey Partridge, Little Owl, Tawny Owl and 4 Barn Owl (JG). c200 Golden Plover at Axle Lane this morning (WB).

17th December c100 Pink-footed Goose >NW over Carlton in Lindrick at 0850 (MS).

16th December c40 Pink-footed Goose >W over South Anston (MC). At Langold Lake today were 3m & 8f Goosander, 7 Great Crested Grebe, 15 Tufted Duck, 53 Mallard, 7 Moorhen, 16 Coot and 6 Mute Swan. At Carlton Lake were 13 Gadwall, 8 Tufted Duck, 10 Greylag Goose and 2 Mute Swan. Brown Bailey's pond revealed a Little Grebe, Cormorant, 10 Coot and a Heron (BC). A Little Egret on the lawned frontage of the big house in Lindrick Dale (NB).

15th December 2 Little Egret >W along the Chesterfield Canal towards Tommy Flockton's Marsh (MC). A Red Kite sat in a hedge at Hodsock (KHa).

14th December At Dinnington Marsh were 2 Woodcock, Teal, 15 Lesser Redpoll and 2-3 Willow Tit (MC & JG).

13th December Single Bar-tailed Godwit over Slade Hills this morning (JOM). 40 Siskin at Kiveton Pit Top (Kiveton Community Woodland) (WB).

12th December At Langold Lake today were Kingfisher, Water Rail and Cetti's Warbler. At Hodsock were 20 Siskin, 200 Brambling, 50 Greenfinch, 40 House Sparrow, 200 Starling, 100 Linnet, 30 Stock Dove, 50 Pied Wagtail, 200 Fieldfare, 100 Redwing, 5 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and 3 Red Kite (JG). M Merlin at Hodsock over the set-aside (JW). Back at Langold Lake were Langold Lake 3 Nuthatch, 2 Grey Wagtail, Kingfisher, Cetti's Warbler, 20 Redwing, 20 Blackbird, 8 Great Crested Grebe, 18 Tufted Duck, Water Rail, Buzzard, m Kestrel and 40 Pink-footed Goose >W. At Langold Holt, a m Green Woodpecker, 62 Fieldfare, Great Spotted Woodpecker and 3 Gadwall (MC).

11th December At Axle Lane today were 49 Golden Plover, 50 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Common Gull, 400 Black-headed Gull, 13 Herring Gull, 2 Heron, 8 Grey Partridge and 41 Stock Dove (MC).

10th December 10 Tree Sparrow in a North Anston garden (RC).

9th December At Kiveton Pit Top were 19 Blackbird, 30 Redwing, 2 Cormorant >E and 2 Bullfinch. At Tommy Flockton's Marsh were 35 Wigeon, 19 Teal, 4 Mallard and a Sparrowhawk (BC). At Langold Lake were 10 Mute Swan, 20+ Siskin and a Buzzard (MSc).

6th December 100 Pink-footed Goose >W over Langold Pit Top (MSc). Cetti's Warbler still present at Langold Lake (MC).

5th December 80+ Redwing over Langold Pit Top and towards lake and a further 20+ at Rotherham Baulk towards Dinnington. A Buzzard over set a side field below Langold Pit Top (MSc). A Little Egret over Cramfit Road heading for NAPT (JA).

3rd December At NAPT were 10 Snipe, Jack Snipe, 2 Woodcock and 3 Lesser Redpoll (MC).
